SUMMARY:Third and public sector staff
DESCRIPTION:Leeds Mindfulness Co-op is working with others across the city to address inequalities in mental health faced by minoritized ethnic communities. Leeds Mindfulness Co-op is offering a free 8 week course for Third and Public Sector staff and volunteers working in Leeds. \nThe course is open everyone working in the third sector\, Local Authority or NHS (paid or volunteers). We particularly welcome applications from those who are from\, or who are working with\, ethnically diverse communities. \nThe course will run on Tuesdays 10:30am – 1pm from 14th May – 9th July (with a break for half term) at the Reginald Centre on Chapeltown Road.  Each session is 2.5hrs long (with breaks) allowing time to learn and practice new skills which will have a real impact. \nMindfulness means being aware of experience in the present moment. Mindfulness can help people regain a sense of control and confidence even whilst living with difficult experience.   \nOn our courses we invite people to learn new skills and to listen to theirbody\, thoughts and feelings. We introduce mindfulness through simple practices to help develop these skills. These include a combination of short meditations\, group discussions\, mindfulness activities (including mindful movement and pacing) and compassion-based practices; along with ideas from CBT\, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy. The outcome is to reduce stress and suffering by changes in perspective.  This includes being able to be with difficult physical experience and emotions\, to respond with more kindness\, choice\, and calm rather than automatic habits\, and to cultivate more present moment awareness to counter balance worry or rumination.  \nBoooking essential. Please complete this short form to register your interest or email info@mindfulnesscoop.co.uk with any questions.
