All our teachers have been trained by Breathworks; a global organisation who have been working to help people living with pain, illness and stress reclaim their lives since 2001. Breathworks are a founding member of the British Association for Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA).

Breathworks courses are a practical application of mindfulness to help people manage pain, stress and illness in their lives.  They are ‘secular’ courses – using practices with their roots in the Buddhist tradition but making these accessible to people with different faith backgrounds.

The programmes have their origins in the personal experience of Vidyamala Burch, a member of the Triratna Buddhist Community, who has used mindfulness to manage severe chronic spinal pain for thirty years.

They are founded on practice-based research combined with key elements of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

The Breathworks Mindfulness for Health 8 week course teaches the skills to help you live well with long-term health conditions. Each week introduces key ideas and practices which help us to live well and thrive in the face of health challenges such as chronic pain, fatigue, chronic illness and stress.

The Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress course is for anyone wanting to cope better with stress and find new sources of resilience.  The course includes tools to help you see thoughts, physical sensations, emotions and events at the moment they occur without reacting in an automatic or habitual way.  By developing a new relationship with the conditions we find ourselves in we begin to respond creatively. Experiences don’t overwhelm us and we can remain steady through life’s ups and downs.
